Malaysia Airlines and KLM partnership

Malaysia Airlines and KLM are set to investigate closer links with each other, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Shanghai today.

Azmil said, “This is the first step towards further strengthening our partnership with KLM which has spanned 11 years. It is timely and aligned with our aim towards profitable growth next year. Teaming up with KLM will offer a win-win situation for all as it provides economic benefits for both parties.
As a natural extension of the current and successful relationship which has been in place for the past 11 years, this collaboration marks an important milestone for the two national airlines and will pave way for potential closer co-operation between the airlines. The benefits include greater connectivity, better schedules and more choices for customers.

The document was signed by Malaysia Airlines Managing Director/CEO, Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin and KLM’s Chief Executive, Peter Hartman.

“Through this, our customers can benefit with greater connectivity, better schedules and enhanced products. With closer links, we will also be able to keep costs down. This will then enable us to pass on the benefits to our customers.

“The MoU with KLM is significant as Malaysia is an ideal transit point for visitors from Australasia and Europe. We hope to be able to sign a definitive agreement soon, so to enable to further increase the passenger numbers from that region not only to Malaysia but to our destinations in Australasia,” he said.

Commenting on the signing, Hartman said, “This MoU will strengthen the connection between the two hubs: Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur.”.

“Moreover, this partnership is an ideal opportunity to expand the number of Australasian destinations we offer our customers. Malaysia Airlines enjoys a deserved reputation for consistent and high quality service, both on the ground and in the air, and so is a natural partner for KLM,” he said.

Both Malaysia Airlines and KLM operate daily Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur flights.
